Kate Gorney
INSTRUCTOR
KATE GORNEY
Kate began her dance career studying French Cecchetti ballet and trained extensively starting at age four. As required with this style of ballet training, she passed each mandatory graded examination in front of a panel of ballet professionals on the national Ceccheti board before progressing to the next highest level. As a teenager, she was a member of the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet company, and participated two consecutive summers in the Cecchetti Council of America Intensive Program. At university, her dance training became modern oriented, incorporating Hawkins and contemporary modern technique. Kate subsequently recieved her undergraduate drgree from The George Washington University with a minor in dance. She brings years of rigorous training from her own life into a positive environment, focusing simultaneously on the detailed aspects of the ballet art form and joy of expression. Kate insists that the euphoria of mastery can exist at the very beginning stages of dance training.
She has been working along side Michael Cornell as his PBLA director of development. She has been mastering Michael’s unique Ballet 101 fomula for teaching ballet to beginners by demonstrating for Michaels classes, teaching private lessons to teens, and helping to develope the Ballet 101 teacher training manual. She regularly attends the PBLA advanced classes, and was one of the PBLA dancers to perform at The Grove for the Black Swan DVD release promotion.
